Asian fish - bottom dwellers and algae eaters?

I'm setting up an Asian themed tank. I would like something like Cories to clean up food and such on the bottom, and something like Otos to eat algae, but all of those fish are from South America. I can't do any shrimp because there is a Betta in the tank. Are there any fish like this that are from Asia?

Bumble Bee Gobies are, but they are brackish.

I don't have the tank requirements for a Hillstream Loach, but thanks for the suggestion!

use kuhli loaches for aerating your gravel as well as cleaning uneaten food, they also are one of the most hilarious fish, my kuhli loves to "dance" on the glass and sometimes the SAE i have joins him its hilarious kuhlis are awesome!

If you are using the 10 gallon in your sig, I do not believe you will be able to find an suitable fish. Siamese algae eaters get up to 5.5" and the chinese will be even larger and at that size they may be able to damage your plants. Your betta may also pick fights with them. Loaches need to be in groups and the smallest one grows to 2.5". They can also be aggressive and may nip at your betta's fins.

Ya, it's for the 10g. So, no I didn't miss the obvious Siamese and Chinese AEs. They get too big. Same as the Loaches.

I was worried I wouldn't be able to find anything suitable for the tank. I may have to make a sacrifice and get a few Otos (how many?). I imagine I will need something to eat algae...?

Well I'm hoping there will be lots of plants, but I'm not going to trust my plant growing skills enough for that yet! I would have to special order any shrimp in too, and they will probably be about 3x normal retail value, so I would want to be REAL sure the Betta wouldn't eat them!!

Can they be shipped to Canada?

I think I can get ghost shrimp here. Do they eat algae too? I thought it was just the Amanos and RCS?
