Cycling tank fishes

this isn't a question, just a really weird happening. so I'm cycling a 16g tank and have 6 tetras in there doing the cycling. well last night I walk passed the tank (been cycling for 3 weeks) and something moved other than the 6 fish. I get closer and darn it all if there wasn't a fish fry in there!!! it was sooo tiny and cute hiding in some hairgrass! idk how I got it cause I didn't think any of the fish were pregnant when I got them. there's only the one fry that I can see. I figured it would die by today since the tank specs are still not the best and I only feed flakes (and don't really know how to keep a fish fry) but I searched the tank a few minutes ago and it's still alive and kicking hiding in the java moss. I can't wait to see if it grows up and what type of the tetra it is. it's my first anything born in my tanks. woot!

I love when you find stuff like that in tanks (:
Good luck!

Congrats on the fry

Tetras are all egglayers, so they must have spawned in your tank.

Unusual with a tank that's still cycling, for sure!

unusual is right. especially with the frequent water changes, heavy nitrate spikes, and the uncovered filter (should've sucked up the eggs I would've thought). that's probably why there's only one of them. lol. thanks guys

Crazy!

Hope it lives and grows well :]

If you have an extra tank [even a 1g for now] you might wana try to scoop it out gently and put it in somthing more stable with some green water?

Don't know a whole lot about fry though, but best of luck for the guy, 1 survivor

Java moss is awesome for fry. Adult fish have problems swimming through it so it's a great place for fry to hide, plus it attracts infusoria, which are the best first food for fry.

What kinds of tetras do you have in the tank?
