There are so many tetra and danio species I think that question is almost impossible to answer. As far as otos go, that would be about a day in my tanks.

My danios have been good for about a year. Still seem really healthy too.

I"ve had neon tetras live for over 5 years, and a couple of cherry barbs for nearly 7.

I"d say 5 years for danios too.

really long. fish live remarkably long for the speed of their developement to adulthood. i believe its due to the slow metabolism they have, like with reptiles, as a result of being exo-thermic.

I've had a few Cardinal tetras and some Tiger Barbs live past 8 years.

Good replies so far... also in general, the larger the fish, the longer the lifespan (in closely related species) keep in mind this is a general statement!

Yep, not always true but generally a good guide. Take some coryadoras species which can generally live for 15 years or so yet only get to 1.5 inches.

Most fish these days aren't "dyed" they come from genetically engineered embryos with jellyfish genes to get those awesome neon colors.

You're referring to Glofish danios. The others are dyed.

Actually, almost. After about 2 yrs or so, they started to fade a little bit, but even when they finally passed on, you could see the tint of blue or pink still in them. I know their DNA wasn't altered, but it wasn't dyed like glassfish. I think it is one that takes off their slimecoat, then the skin is dyed, and they get their slimecoat back after the process(whenever it grows back I guess). They were some of the healtiest fish I've had. Survived 2 bad bouts of ich and everything.
