MOST fish in the aquaria hobby have been selectively bred.
Actually, that includes shrimp as well - Crystal Reds come to mind first. Pronounced features and albino varieties are all a result of "messing" with these animals. Your oh-so-common goldfish... yeah, them too.

most of the popular fish out there are altered somehow. some are selectively bred while some are physically mutilated, and others still are cross bred.
discus, various froms of danios, fancy guppies, blood parrots, almost all short bodied fish, various species of shrimp, some crayfish, fancy goldfish, the list goes on and on. i guess what i'm trying to say is that although you might dislike the fact that someone may cross breed or that someone interbreeds their stock to get interesting deformities it is ultimately what drives this hobby. not all fish in the wild look that great so sometimes we gotta pick out the nicer traits and "enhance" them though breeding or what not. |
