i read in Practical fishkeeping that feeding raw potatoes was good for otos because it was high i carbs which will give them energy. i havent tried it yet but i will soon and i'll let you know the results

Ottos have to earn their keep in my tanks. I've never fed them a single morsel. My tanks look algae free, but the ottos look happy, fat, and old.

okay update on the potatoe

i tried feeding them the raw stuff and it was ignored the first day, but by the second day there were some holes in it. im not sure if it was the otos or my hungry gouramies but by the 4th day the whole thing was gone. although my otos did seem to look a bit chubbier,i think it might have worked. amanos and snails loved it as well.

give it a shot.

Did the potato sink right away? Or did you have to weigh it down?

i used a lead weight

but after it got a little eaten away it seperated from the weight and floated up. by that point it was a bit soggy and smelled bad so i took it out. but the otos loved it

Has anyone ever tried spinach in place of lettuce??? I would think it would be better since spinach has a lot more nutrition than lettuce.
