Krib stocking question

Hi,

Quick question.

I have a 75 gal planted tank.

Currently I have
1 Red Tailed Shark (~5")
1 SAE (~3")
3 OTO's
2 Yellow Barbs
5 Zebra Danios

I recently purchased 2 male kribs (I thought I had 1M 1F) Everything seems fine so far.

I was thinking of trying to find 2 female kribs and add them to the mix.

Would 2 Krib Pairs work in this tank? I have been finding mixed information.

Thanks

Mark

A few years ago I kept a breeding pair of kribs and about 10-12 of their offspring in a 29 gallon. It was a species tank with a sand bottom and a huge pile of rocks along the back. They were fine although the adult breeding pair were the only ones that bred (I always assumed it was some sort of social hierarchy thing). My kribs always dug quite a bit and sifted through the substrate so depending on your plants that could be an issue.

I'm also not sure how well they would do with your other tankmates. Those would be my only two concerns though, they are great little fish!

I suspect the kribs and the shark would have issues, especially come breeding time.

Thanks for the replies. What if I had 1 female to the mix. There would be 2 males and 1 female?

Female Kribs are known to get extremely hostile come breeding time. They will chase and try and attack any fish in the tank regardless of age, sex, size or species. It is said that the female does this in an attempt to stake out as much territory as possible(lol. the whole tank) when it wants to nest.

I have a male and female krib in my 40 gallon tank and regret ever getting them. I cannot keep any hygrophilia polyspema in th tank as the kribs, especially the female will bite off and I mean bite off and not eat, but spit out tips of the HP leaves

The male krib does the same but to a lesser extent. The male and female also pick on the ambulia plants in the same way. This is so bad that with every weekly water change I am finding myself spending extra time trying to net out all the leaf bits and it is a real PITA

As far as the Kribs breeding, no chance The female krib will not let the male krib anywhere near her, so he cannot even do his thing . She not only chases him away every chance she gets but will chase with the sole purpose of attacking him

She also likes to give my Black Skirt Tetras a chase
but they are pretty fast so they usually end up eluding her

Personally if I was going to breed kribs, I would put a pair in a 20 gallon with no other fish, with plants that they are not going to enjoy messing with, cross your fingers and hope that the match is made in heaven.
