12 and 6 gallon stocking

I am trying to figure out what I want to put in the small tanks, I have the new pair of rams all alone in one ten gallon and they seem to be doing so well in their despite the ick that it might become their permanent home all to themselves.

The twelve gallon is about halfway through cycling and I am going to start planting it...but I have no idea what to put in it, I was thinking maybe male lyretail delta guppies, they are pretty and different, or endlers? But really I have no clue what I want do with it, plants or fish...I cant decide lol
So what would you do with a 12 gallon..got any pics?

What can live in a heavily planted 6 gallon bowfront besides a betta, can a single dwarf puffer? Also where do you find nice looking bettas, the ones locally look awful!

A single DP could, but IMO they are best kept in a larger tank, in groups so you can see them interact.

In the 12g, you could plant it and put in a trio of DPs, then put a handful of male guppies in the 6g.

That's what I'd do.

Or make the 6g a shrimp tank if you don't like the guppies in there.

good to know about the dwarf puffers, I assumed they needed to be singles, I need to do more research,

guppies are social, correct?
not necessarily schoolers but still social and need their own kind? can male varieties be mixed and matched?

Male varieties should be able to be mixed and matched. You just might end up with some odd color varieties, or maybe some really dull ones, I'm not familiar with guppy genetics.

DPs would be real cool. I think you should check out some killifish for the 6 gallon. Most stay pretty small < 2 in. so you could get a male and a couple females real easily. Plus, some of them come in very stunning color varieties.

If you want to spend some serious drooling time, and be tempted to spend more $$ than you ever dreamed of on a betta, visit the betta section at www.AquaBid.com

(Plus sometimes you can get good deals on local bettas instead of being tempted to have them shipped from Thailand)

Unless you're planning another dozen tanks or so in the near future, you may want to stick with JUST male guppies (they breed like rabbits). And you can mix and match whatever varieties you like... some of the domesticated strains look pretty fantastic! (you can also see those on AquaBid too... LOL)

Too many choices!

Yes I was going to do only male guppies..we have about 5 lyretail delta guppies in the big tank (for now) and they are fun to watch, one of the local stores here has cobra tails and some with tails that look like monarch butterflies, pretty little things and the ones we have are fun to watch as they are very busy but not hectic like danios, they eat shrimp pellets with the cories too which is amusing.

If I scrap the idea of a puffer and go with male guppies in the 12 gallon, how many would be good with possibly a trio of ottos for cleaning..or likewise if the 6 gallon had guppies (and maybe a snail), how many would work?
I will look into the killifish, I know there are some pretty ones!

The store also got in what I think are some black harlequin rasboras, they are a dark cobalt blue-ish purple on the back half with reddish orange noses and underbelly, tiny little things and pretty to boot! a large school of them would be pretty in the big tank as well,im not sure if there would be enough though to get a big enough school, and i havent seen them anywhere else.
Could a small group of say 4 of those live in the top section of a 10 gallon with a pair of rams, or is that too crowded?
