Apistogramma borelli

Does anyone here keep them? I will be getting a trio soon and I am having a very difficult time finding information on them. I have the tank up and cycled, but I am working on the ph... here in Nashville we have liquid rock. My tap comes out with a ph of about 8.0 (I have placed the order for my new GH test kit), so I have been slowly lowering it with distilled water, its down to about 7.2 right now, but I want it at about 6.5 or so. Anyways I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with them?
Thanks a ton

I would keep your pH where it is at right now.

Borelli do not need super soft water in order to breed and be happy. Heck, they wll breed in 7.5 if they are happy enough.

If they are going into a planted tank with CO2 they will be just fine.

I have the A. borelli. I too have heard that these Apistos handle water that is a little colder, harder, and with a higher pH than do most Apistos.

fwiw- I have found the females are pretty small.

I also have a pair of A. Hongsloi in with them.

I've also become particularly fond of the dwarf cichlids, including A. borellii. I think the dwarf cichlids are perfect fish for planted tanks! Riley is correct that they will do just fine in moderately hard and neutral water.

My favorite resource for info on the dwarf cichlids are:

---Basic info on some of the most readily available species.

---A great forum where you can get specific questions answered.

For breeding I have found that it is important to try and duplicate the fishes natural environment as much as possible. Fish are adaptable nontheless so when getting fish shipped it is more important to know what conditions they are currently being kept in.

When i find out the water params that they are being kept in I try and match them as much as posssible to help with acclimation.

thanks to all for the advice!
I agree with Bruce though, they are currently being kept at roughly a ph of 6.5 and temp of 78ish so thats what I am attempting to replicate
thanks a ton y'all
