By Galaxy are you referring to Celestial Pearl Danios, formerly known as the Galaxy rasbora?

If so, then CPDs really should be kept in cooler water, in the low 70s, but rams prefer temps in the low 80s... the fish can be acclimated, but IMO are more prone to health problems and probably won't live as long.

Galaxy rasbora are pretty expensive. I wouldn't house them with a ram in case the ram gets testy. GBR prefers softer water at discus temps (80's), while galaxy rasbora / celestial pearl danio prefer cooler alkaline water. Hopefully, you are getting captive bred CPD, in which case the water won't matter much.

I still would not keep CPD with a ram. Not saying you can't, just saying that I would prefer to keep such an expensive fish in a species tank with good numbers. It's not a fish that you should stock one or two of.

As for glass shrimp, I assume you mean American glass shrimp, commonly sold as ghost shrimp. I'd guess your ram would eat them, but every individual fish is different.

Agreed. I don't think its a good idea. CPDs are skittish and having a dominant, potentially aggressive fish in the tank with them would make them hide all the time IMO. And there is the temp differences....

I refuse to keep CPDs until their numbers in the wild start going back up.

There's something to be said for keeping them for conservation purposes... that requires a certain level of committment, however.

I have kept CPDs with my apistos before. I didnt really didnt see to many problems. The only reason I wouldnt do it again would be to breed them.

The Rams would definately eat any fry that the CPDs produce.

Remember that sometimes a so called endangered fish isnt always the truth. There has been rumors of the CPDs being endangered for a long time now. Sometimes the collectors use this trick to drive up the price of the fish. There have been rumors of the scarcity in the wild along with rumors that they have found new populations.

So after all my rambling....I wouldnt do it. If you have a spare 10 gallon tank, put a bubble filter in there, toss in 6 to 12 CPDs some moss and breed em!

I keep about 20 Celestial Pearl Danios in a 29gl heavily planted bowfront, and for personality and characteristical (just made that word up) reasons, I find CPD´s can be reasonably shy. I´m not sure how big your tank is, but for agression reasons maybe, I wouldn´t suggest it. CPD´s are more comortable in bigger numbers in a bigger tank, this I have noticed, even more so than say, ten CPD´s in a 10gl as opposed to 20cpds in a 29gl. Depending on how many you and the size of the tank, you might find the GBR might keep them in the back corner behind some plants where they will mostly just chill out and hide.

In experience, CPD´s do very well in species only tanks, or from experience also, with WCMM´s.

Just my two EuroCents (living in Barcelona now)

They do tons better in a species specific tank. I have 4 of them right now...not sure if they're all female or if i have a male or two. They're super shy and wont' even come out for food. i'm trying to find some live brine shrimp or something else small and live so i can fatten them up and get them to come out more but no luck as of yet. If you are lucky enough to get your hands on some i suggest you breed them rather then put them into a community tank. for the moment the population is under watch because of the overfishing of this fish. I'm sure there are other populations out there but as of this moment we only know of one population in the wild and we've been overfishing it. i'm sure the price will drop eventually because of how easy it is to breed these guys but for now try your hand at breeding because at this moment the CPDs are good for trading too
