Default american flagfish parenting

I have read that american flagfish build a nest that they breed in but I just saw my male chase the female throughout the tank and laying an egg here and there and she does not guard them either. whats up with that?

it seems they breed everyday at noon after I feed them flake food. Today the male chased the female for more than an hour and I noticed after each egg they lay the female swims away and the male eats their egg. then either the female returns for more or the male chases her to a spot behind the water heater where they do it. I saved three eggs and put them in a floating nursery.

Flagfish will spawn on substrate, plants whatever is nearby for them to lay eggs.
And will do so everyday. They will eat the eggs until they learn a little parenting skills, but are not very good at keeping care of them. To get eggs and to get them to hatch it is best to put the adults in a 10 gal tank, with temps around 80 to 82 degrees. As soon as the eggs are laid, take the adults out. Use a sponge filter and lower the water about 1/2 way down. The fry are very small and almost clear for awhile. After the egg sacs are used up start feeding with green water every couple of hours. I bred mine in tanks with green water that way they always had something to eat.

I don't think they are even fertilizing the eggs because although they are not fuzzy yet, all the eggs I was able to save have turned white.

I would say they aren't fertile, if they were they would start hatching in about 48 hours.
