Do you have cardinal tetras or neon tetras? They aren't "cardinal neons" You can find both in the Fish Profiles at the top of the form and compare pics, but basically if the red runs all the way across the bottom of the fish then they are Cardinal tetras (like my signature) and if only 1/2 way then they are Neons.
Anyways, I use TetraMin staple flakes and every other day at least feed frozen foods (mysis, bloodworms, emerald entree, spirulina-enriched brine shrimp), freeze-dried tubifex worms, cyclop-eeze, or occasionally live brine shrimp. I have sinking catfish wafers and algae wafers for the loaches and catfish. I just got the AquaDine free crisps (see the Free Fish Food thread in the S&S) that I'm also feeding every few days. I'll occasionally throw in some fresh green veggies.

Check out the New Life Spectrum line of foods. They are guaranteed to improve your fishes' color in ten days, or something like that. Of all the foods I've looked at, NLS had the best ingredients.
Live, freeze-dried, and frozen stuff are pretty good too (in that order Personally, it's probably just me, but I stay away from flakes. They lose their nutritious content fairly quickly after being in the water and usually pretty much lose all their nutrition after about six months in the jar. Most flakes do this, maybe not all, but all the ones I've seen are this way. It's really just a matter of preference.

LOL my fish eat the flakes soon as they hit the water, and I go through a bottle every 3 mos... IMO a good staple flake is great balanced nutrition.
New Life, Hikari and Omega One are also great brands.

for my fish i'm feeding them goldfish flakes at the moment. i brought some tetramin tropical flakes but they haven't come in yet. i've always liked what tetra color bits have done for my fish in the past and i'm using that as well but it's a bit big for my cardinals and green neons.

Omega One and Sera are IMO the best on the market. And flake is quite nutritious. Just don't buy a giant can to last all year! I feed lots of frozen, but have had mixed results with live. One hydra infestation will sour you to that.

Go to your LFS and look at the fish food rack..... thats what I have under my tanks.
Always looking for the newest best thing. I also like a very veried diet and I think my fish (and other aquatic animals) should get the same. For the most part though, it goes like this.... Discus tank, tetra color bits, frozen blood worms/brine shrimp, beef heart mix. rcs/crs tank, color bits, shakura algea rectanglesand baby powder, rains biscuits, fresh blanched zucchhini. Blood Parrot/Corydora Sancturary, Everything on said fish rack!!!

i used to feed live fruit flies to my hatchetfish - they absolutely LOVED them. Some of the danios would also get in on the action sometimes, but ususally didn't get a chance.
By the way, they sell fruit flies for reptile food at most pet stores if you didn't know... or if you're interested. |

I do the same as moogoo, but using the bloodworms more as a treat once or twice a week. If you're interested in bringing out the cardinals' color, what did it for me was getting the proper lighting. I found a simple white appliance bulb as a supplementary did wonders, emitting red-blue-green spikes.

My tetras are bottomless pits and go for whatever hits the water (Silver-tipped tetra). My Bolivian rams are semi-finicky bottom feeders.
I use: - frozen and freeze dried blood worm - frozen brine shrimp - Hikari sinking cichlid pellets - NLS cichlid pellets - Omega? flakes All are readily accepted by my fish. I try to feed the tetras fist, so food can reach the bottom for the rams.

Flakes are the daily staple. Try to feed bloodworms at least every other day. Hikara micro wafers and algae wafers for the loaches, corys and otos. My blue rams love the wafers also.
Have to agree about the flakes. In the rainbow tank they never hit the bottom. In the guppy tank what does hit the bottom is quickly comsumed by the corys and loaches. Container doesn't last long enough to lose its nutritional value. |
