Cory's Died

I had a mini school of three corys (different varieties) and they seemed to be doing very good. I have had them for over a month. Then one day I didn't see one and it took a few days to find the body (too many hiding spots and thick plants). Then today, a couple weeks later, I found another one dead. He was looking fine this morning, eating and swimming.

Any ideas on what is happening? My water parameters are great and all the other fish seem to be fine too. They had plenty to eat, so I know they didn't starve.

Could be anything, including old age, a virus, eating some bad food that had been laying in the tank too long...

Did you make any changes in the tank at all prior to the first death?

For the future, keep in mind that corys are a schooling fish, and do best when they're kept with several of their own species. I have six Corydoras sterbai, and while they'll go off on little jaunts by themselves, they definitely prefer to be near each other. I'm not saying yours died of loneliness, but having a friend always helps, right?

If you only had room for three corys, then in my opinion they should all be the same species. I think three or four might be the smallest school of corys I'd recommend.

I do agree with the above poster, as most corries thrive better with a group of their own kind- single species can get lonely, and actually, unfortunately, fade away. I think you were going in the right direction with a group or corries, or you had the right idea, but next time, get more of one species, or if you're tank allows it, get a couple groups of different corries.

Sorry to hear that. That happened to me once with a shaol of Panda Corys. I've heard they are not very hard though.
