Hi, I'm new here and I'm finding this site quite interesting.
Would I be able to keep a male betta in my planted 29 with these others? I want to give at least one a nicer life out of a cup;
Harlequin Razboras
Rummy-Noses
Zebra Danios
Cardinals
Cories
Ottos
A few common snails
My tank params (which I'm re-testing tonight):
pH ~7.4 temp. 25*C Amm, nitrite 0 Slightly hard
Aqua-Clear 300 (water is at output level so current is lessened)
Plants: Cabomba, Swords (1 large/2 dwarf), other small-leafed plant
Do bettas eat snails?

I was considering testing him in the 29, but if it doesn't work I can get another 2 gallon. My other one was acrylic and the base was cracked.
I have heard of bettas only going after fancy finnage on tankmates, but none of my fish seem big enough to bother it. There isn't really anything in my tank that I think a betta could mistake for another betta. Some fish are brightly coloured, but they're fast swimmers and most bettas I've seen are quite shy.

I think it would be fine. My betta only went after the colorful dwarf gouramis, causing some fin damage. They don't eat snails

Betta's are actually a very peaceful fish. I have one in a communtity tank and the only one he dont like is the Black Widow tetra i have...
but the tetra started it ! :hehe:
Normally any fish without long fins are fine though... they are a great addition to a planted tank !
I acquired mine by sheer chance... it was actually supposed to go to my wifes office but I put him in tank on a Friday night thinking he will be coming out Monday morning to go to his new home but he is still here 2 months later ! I really enjoy him...
Now everytime I see them cooped up in a cup I want to rescue it !

One thing to watch for would be HIS fins getting nipped. I currently have a 10 gal with several females I'm breading(hatched my first clutch on sat), 3 opal gouramis and everyone gets a long as long as my betta doesn't crowd the male gourmi

I wanted one for my tank, but read something that made me think I had too much filter for the little guy. I run an emperor 280 on a 44 gal and the water moves pretty quick. Aren't they air gulpers? I suppose any planted tank would be better than the cup.

I've seen the rummy noses go after bettas. The bettas are quite succeptable to those little fin nippers.

Danios would nip his fins too. You might get the occasional tetra nipping the fins, but I'd be much more concerned with the Danios. I have Bettas in community tanks, they don't really mess with anyone else, although when I had a Betta with a pair of Rams in the 10 gal there was quite a bit of flaring, chasing and displaying.

Woah!! I posted this AGES ago! My tank has changed quite a bit! I have 3 Clown Loaches (snail problem with dw. swords), 3 cories (2 albino, one corydas brevirostris [cute] ), 5 zebra danios, 3 SAEs, and I am getting about 6-8 Harlequins (if betta) or 8-9 (w/o betta)
