Have any of you ever kept any Eels before? I've always been interested by them.. and I think I might try my hand at a large Fire eel... Info seems to be somewhat of a rarity though...

I have had friends that have, they get BIG and will eat anything they can get into there mouths. I saw one in a buddies tank take a chunk out of his adult angle... Was not pretty...

I know they get big.. thats part of the appeal :-) I will be setting up the 90 Gallon as the eels first tank.. and plan on moving him into my 135 when I buy my house in a year or two (and into an even larger tank after that). At that point I will have the indoor pond/concrete tanks built for my loaches.

I am going to be setting the 90 gallon up like that this weekend.. I've been tearing it down all week.

Basically about 2-3" of sand (the eel will keep it stirred) with an isnalnd of Mopani in teh center with Anubias Nana all over it.... The 90 is 3' x 2' x 2' so a 12" Eel should be pretty happy for a while...

Heck it sounds nice enough, I would move in  Post some pics when you get it set up. Sounds like a great idea.... Now if only I could convince my wife that more tanks are a good idea
