I have a relatively new 75g. There are 2 Serpae Tetras and 3 Red-eye Tetras among other peaceful fish. My son wanted a Guppy, so we have had a pair in a quarantine tank for about 2 weeks.

Well, I added them today (along with some Corys)---- Look out! It was like a feeding frenzy. The Tetras were relentless in chasing the Male. I was able to re-net him, but is practically without a tail. They didn't bother the Female at all - she kind of blended in with the White Clouds. I now put the two Guppies back in the Q-tank. I am hoping to save them in there for my son.

Unfortunately, I was going to get a few more Serpaes to make them more of a school and give them each other to chase, but now I don't have Q-tank.

i brought my guppies home from school for spring break and dropped them in my home tank--30 gal. the tetras have nibbled the tails a bit, but not badly...
good luck with that!
mine go back to the school onmonday... inthe meantime, the home tank has had a lot of fry to eat over the week.

Serpaes are known to be fin nippers on occasion and I don't find this too surprising. What you can do to alleviate it is to actually add more of them to the tank. With a larger group, most of the fin nipping and chasing occurs within the group versus against other species (similar to tiger barbs in a sense).
