does anyone know which live foods i can 'easily' grow myself? preferably people from the uk so i have a rought idea to get what i need. but anything else will help.

There is quite a bit of different animalitos that you can grow yourself. This page http://article.dphnet.com/catagory-01.shtml#cultivate is a good start to get an idea. You will find suppliers of starter cultures on the web (www.google.com) and some of them offer detailed instructions.
A long time ago I cultivated Grindal worms, White worms, brine shrimps, micro, even paramecium. Now I have a bucket with Daphnia that my fishies enjoy once a week.
