excuse my poor spelling, but i saw today and my LFS a tank of small yellow cichlids, called mellon something johhani is it? well something like that, the keeper said they will rip my siamese apart? i know there a bit spitefull but 1 pair in a 3foot x 2foot x15inch planted tank? is this really going to be a problem, there very pretty and a paid or yellows would look nice.. another they had there was dwarf puffers, he told me they was brakish which i allready knew, but ive seen them in planted tanks and i know people have them on here. he didnt give 2 shits if i baught them or not which i found a bit sad but he "was still letting me know". could i have a pair of these without a brakish tank? i would love a pair but i dont want them to die on me, my ph is 7.6 at the mo but im gonna drop it this week to 7 if i can. any help would be appriciated.

thanks

I believe you saw a female Melanochromis Johanni. Don't put those in planted tanks. They are messy diggers and will uproot a lot of stem plants.

Some brackish water fish can adapt to freshwater but needs high GH water. I'm not sure about the puffers though.

You do not want melanochromis johanni in your tank. trust me. They will most likely kill all your other smaller fish, dig up or eat your plants, and they prefer a pH of about 8
