Boraras brigittae!!!

Hey guys!

I've been seriously thinking about buying a dozen or so of these lil fish for my 29g, which has 3 ottos, 10 Celestial Pearl Danios, and Cherry Shrimp. Should they be fine in this setup? Its heavily planted btw. Also anyone that owns these lil fish, care to share your opinions or experiences with this lil fish? Any pics would be great!

I used the search function here and googled but didnt really see anything informative other than a few stock photos. Any info will be greatly appreciated!!!

I have 10 myself in a 12 gallon. They're a lot of fun to watch and they are so much smaller than I thought they were going to be so, as long as none of their tankmates are big enough to snack on them (I know absolutely nothing about C.P. danios) your setup sounds just fine.

Baby cherries are going to be goners, but your CPDs have probably already taken care of that =D

Other than that, a dozen in a 29 gallon will be great. Watching the males defend their waterspace is really fun to watch. They're not really schoolers, so don't expect that. The colors will really come out best when they have space (looks like you'll be fine in this department), and if they have a dark colored substrate.

You might run into a compatibility issue in terms of feeding with the CPDs and Boraras brigittae. The Boraras take the food straight from the surface, while in my experience, CPDs wait for the food to sink all the way down.

Thanks for the replies guys! Its refreshing to hear/read that they'll be fine. I have Eco Complete as a substrate so hopefully they're colors will be great. As far as the shrimplets go, I did notice that they were getting eaten lol so I set up a 10g for the berried females, where they can have the babies. I was surprised how much the CPD's like to hunt in the moss for shrimplets!!

Any pics by chance?

Welcome to mini predator keeping. Your fish will like the fresh food if you keep some mature shrimp in the tank. The more I've read this keeps coming up about both fish.

Bummed to hear they don't school but territorial displays are always fun to watch.

Would probably give the WCM and Cards in the 55 a run for their money at feeding time.

Thanks for asking and the answers guys.

I hear shrimp also return the favor by snacking on CPD eggs. Bleh, I was so excited about trying CPDs and CRS. So much for that idea.

Neither of these pictures are very good but, they do at least show a little of their color, unlike the picture in my sig.

I added a bit over a dozen to my 75 and they are neat little fish. Its fun to play find the fish in the jungle in there to see how they are doing. After reading this post i did notice a drop in shrimp numbers in the days following the addition of these. I wonder how much of that had to do with them.

Hopefully if these come available again i'll be able to boost the numbers up a bit, they didnt cost much but they see very sporadic in availibility at least in the michigan area.

A nice little symbiotic relationship.

Breeding either = species tank.

It's probably easier to move CPDs to a "breeding" tank anyways....they are avid egg eaters themselves, so they probably eat their own eggs as fast or faster than the shrimp will.

The only problem I see with the Boraras is the feeding, like someone mentioned above. My CPDs refuse to come to the surface to eat and will wait for stuff to sink....as long as you can keep the Boraras occupied so that the CPDs can eat, you'll be fine.
