Question

help stock my 29g tank

Well, My 29g tank is finally coming together, but I haven't even thought about fish up to this point. Anyways, It will be heavily planted, 2.3 wpg, open top tank.

It will include Rotala indica, Didiplis diandra, HEMIANTHUS CALLITRICHOIDES, Cyperus helferi, Ludwigia glandulosa, and Blyxa japonica.

I really want some type of schooling fish like M. Boesemani, but I am not sure if I can have them. Can I?
I also need a good clean up crew, so how many Otto's?

What type of fish would you put in it?

thanks

I think those rainbows would be a little bit too big for your 29 gallon. I think a small school (6-8) of Preacox rainbows would be a better fit. That would be good for a schooling fish. As far as ottos I would definately go with 6. I would add a few amano shrimp also. The bottom realm of the tank could either be ruled by some Cory catfish, or a pair of dwarf cichlids ( Apistos or rams) Good luck!

cool, I think I want a pair of rams, otto's, RCS, and a large school of some type of rasbora or tetra or tiger barbs (could I?).

I would go with about 10-12 tetras or rasboras. I dont know if the Tiger barbs would be a good idea with the rams.

I'd skip the Barbs and get tetras or rasboras. Wait until you have a pretty big established RCS colony before you add Rams.....shrimp=dwarf cichlid food.

Harlequin rasboras are awesome in large groups, as are Rummynose tetras (my personal fav) and Cardinal tetras.

sorry to hijack.

i have a 30 gal. tank and i'm thinking of fish too. How large of a school of tetras (cardinal, rummy) is too large for 30 gal? I was thinking a school of 30 would be good, with shrimp and maybe a pair of rams in the future. is this too much?

and my personal opinion, i'd go with cardinals or rummys. My favorite schooling fish.

If you want rainbow fish, I saw some the other day I'd never seen before. "Gertrude's Blue-Eye", (Pseudomugil gertrudae) a type of very tiny rainbow fish. They're really lovely and would look great in a school in a tank with other small and peaceful fishes.

Look at aquabid for some tiny, beautiful Rainbows. I am very tempted to get some. (might not be listed at the moment, but it's a repeat seller, so keep looking)

There's also the Featherfin and the Celebes (spelling?).

I've recently been wowed by Zebra Danios and other similar Danios. Some have long, flowing fins and tails. They school very well, and they all come looking for food if you twirl your finger in the water.

you wont be able to get the HC to take with 2.3 wpg... So don't waste your money.
