Fish death, egg bound?
I had a breeding pair of kribs in a 30g planted tank. All fish in there were happy healthy and the plants were thriving. Yesterday my mama fish died. She appeared healthy and then over night she became bloated in the belly, very swollen looking, had bulging eyes and hemmorahging around the eyes and gasping. Last week they laid a batch of eggs and have been regularly laying but they often get eaten or they eat them.
The tank is stable, there have been some fish removed from the tank to add room, the tank has been rescaped recently (probably why no clutches survived). THe tank has mostly kribs, and their babies, a couple giant danios, a couple colombian tetras, a yoyo loach, a chinese algae eater and a couple of ottos. No other fish show these symptoms. One of the giant danios has a mark on its side and is refusing food and lethargic but doesn't show bloat, or redness. I have no idea what is going on and really don't like to treat the tank. I gave the danio a salt dip today and will do another tomorrow if he survives. Any ideas if the death of the mama fish could have been cause by being eggbound or something? I suspect the danio was attacked by the CAE...we'll see. Any thoughts? Thanks kara |
