Ghost knife
Ok, just in case, I did a search and all I came up with was tons of posts from some YAHOO
. Has anyone sucessfully kept BGK's with the likes of tetras and shrimp? After seing the comments about them on DFS, seems none there have seen any aggressive behavior. Now I know they have a small mouth (compared to , say, a clown knife), but then again, so do seahaorses, but if youve ever seen one of THEM eat a shrimp, WOW! Id like to be able to keep them (errr, one of "them")with CRS saftely, but Im not gonna risk it unless theres decent odds theyl survive. I know i could test one with my ghost shrimp (OOOOHH!!, Ill keep it strictly a ghost knife and ghost shrimp tank and call it my haunted tank!!!), but really dont wanna spend the $$$ for one just to verify it wouldnt work, then be stuck with it. Thanks in advance, and sorry for the sillyness ("ALRIGHT! Thats enough of THAT!, Thats just silly!), its late, Im at work bored to tears, and my mind is running ninety-to nothing. |

Scape? What's a scape?

FWIW I had one in my unplanted community tank, they do get kind of large, and evidentally mine was the exception to the rule because when the lights went out, he was a fin nipper. decimated my angels.
It is really cool to watch them swim backwards though

I don't think it would work. The BGK will more than likely eat them. I had one (died recently...) that I occasionally fed ghost shrimp and feeder goldfish to. Plus, they can get large (well over 12"), so that wouldn't be a good idea. I never really found mine to be aggressive, but he swam and twisted around a lot and wasn't afraid to come up to the top for feeding, to compete with the cichid tankmates.

mm.. lel you need a tank that is as wide (deapth) as they are logn so they can turn around properly.. they get about 18" long so yeah, do the math haha. also, they are blind so they don't really see what theya re eatting they just feel ti with their electro sencing stuff so I suppose aggeression would stem from the fact that they are blind.

they DON'T have small mouth, dont mix them with tetras, dont mix them with shrimps, dont put them in a planted tank (their swimming habbit makes a mess out of your tank).
they belong in big tanks, with hiding places, suitable tank mates would be big plecos or better yet in individual in a big tank.

Ok, pretty much what I figured. Nix them, along side half-black angels. Hrrrm, I definately need more tanks. I could swear we (LFS I worked at a few years ago) had some who had tiny holes for mouths. We fed them primarily bloodworms and they "slurped" them not unlike a elephant-nose.After looking at some pics online, Kotoeloncat, I stand BADLY mistaken. Same mouth as found on a Clown Knife! Im guessing the reason I only saw them "slurping" throught the "hole" was that we never tried to feed them live, and even if we did, wouldnt be there after lights out to see them eat live anyway.
That being said, and without starting a new thread, anyone know anything about Elephant-nose or Baby Whales? Im looking for something larger and unique looking that will go with a planted community basically. Thanks again guys, great info! EDIT: Nevermind. I know the E-Nose gets too big for a heavily planted 75g (will probably end up up-rooting plants). Come to think of it, so will anything I can think of that gets larger than normal (say, 6"). Maybe I will try to find a Farlowella or Royal Farlowella for an oddball. |
