Default Need help pleasing wife

I'm hoping that the somewhat racey title will get enough peoples attention and I can get some good ideas to solve a problem of mine (not that problem!). Here is my problem.

I've just redone my tank and confirmed something that I had suspected for about a month now, all of my cherry shrimp are gone. Back in March I bought 2 pair of German Blue Rams and placed them in my HEAVILY planted 29g community tank. Over the course of 3 months, as I expected, the cherry shrimp population really slowed down but I could always spot varying sizes of shrimp in the tank- so they were breeding. During that same 3 months my population of GBR's dropped to 1. Then for the next month or two I saw fewer and fewer shrimp and then none. I have seen the last GBR hunting down and eating shrimp but doubt he could have got them all is such a densly packed tank.

So, my wife really liked the shrimp (and generally hates animals so that's saying a lot) and would like to get rid of the "Bully" as she likes to call the Ram.

Here's the meat of my request for help. I need suggestions for fish, probably 2-3, that I can use as a centerpiece fish in a 29g planted aquarium that would have a hard time eating adult cherry shrimp. Any Ideas?

Thanks in advance

Brian

how 'bout a school of hatchets? Or African butterflyfish? Notice, I'm suggesting fish that hang out at the top of the tank.

Sorry, every other fish I can think of would easily snack on an adult cherry

instead of a couple of fish, why not a small school of fish as your showcase?
maybe 15 Cardinals, or 10 Rummy nose?

I should have put into my original post what I've got left in the tank. Currently I've got a school of neon tetras about 11 of them, a growing community of Endlers (the ram doesn't even notice the fry) 2 ottos and one zebra danio. Hope this helps with suggestions.

i guess you need something that preferably stays to the top, is big enough to be a centerpiece fish but small enough that it won't eat cherries. Here are my suggestions:

1. Badis badis?

2. Threadfin rainbows, furcata rainbows

3. pencilfish

Well... if your household is anything like mine.......

The answer is simple.... Keep your big tank just like it is... and set up an awsome little 5 or 10 gal tank for your wife and stock her up with some cherries, and for her birthday, get her a few Crystal Reds.

I have a little set up like that on my night stand, and I love to go to sleep watching the little cherries by the light of a moon glo lamp.

It's a good thing we all seem to be able to hold back on responding to an "open door" title like that...
