A. cacatuoides spawned!
So my female a.cac had disappeared for a week (I thought she was dead, but for the life of me , couldnt figure out where she was).
And last night I saw her out ... with a brood of atleast 30 fry ! I am guessing she was hiding inside one of the upturned pots in the 10 gallon. The daddy is a triple red (I got him from Jim @ mainlycichlids ), My water is medium-hard (~100ppm), and the pH is way high (7.5). I dont know how she bred, I didnt even try! Anyone had experience with rearing a. cac fry? Any help/suggestions would be very appreciated! Now I need to go get some baby brine shrimp |

can't be of any help with the fry-rearing, but I can tell you that a. cac. is considered the easiest apisto to breed and keep. they are much less picky about water parameters than most of the apistos in the hobby. i'm not sure whether that is because they're more widespread as a species and can tolerate varied water parameters in the wild, or if they're more hardy because they've been captive bred long enough to do well in harder water, or maybe even a little of both... in any case, congrats on the spawn, and i think i speak for everyone here, LET'S SEE SOME PICS!

I have spawned my Apisto Caucs several times over the last year. You might want to go ahead and remove the male as he dosen't have any role in raising the fry. If mom hasn't eaten them by now, she sounds like she'll make a good mom. If they are free swimming you must feed them baby brine shrimp. I feed mine them three times a day. They should eat until their bellies turn orange. keep up your weekly water changes and remove the mother when the fry are a month old.
