Ram question

Can you get a pair if you just put a male and a female into a tank?

Depends, from what I've read. Only way to know is to try.... I put in three (2 F, 1 M) and there was a mated pair pretty quick.

Me too. I had 2 males and 2 females. They quickly paired off and each couple chose a side of the tank to set up as a permanent nesting site.

Yes with rams it is not a issue like some aquatic fish Discus, Angels to name a few. Looks and personality does not seem to matter with rams.

Ram's definitely prefer soft water, and may not breed in harder water. However, captive-bred Rams will be more tolerant of water condition than wild-caught stock. So, I guess it depends how hard your water is? What's your PH and hardness?

How soft of water do I need and how do I make my water soft? If I make my water soft, will that affect any of my plants that are already in my tank?
