Yes im sure it is biased, it is the countries largest bass fishing magazine. I remember them sighting their source under the article. I wonder if I can find it on my book shelf. I must have over a 100 bass pro mags. I once thought I was an awsome light tackle fisherman.

When I go out to the Chain O' Lakes in northern Illinois I grab my 6'6" medium walleye rod with 10lb test and my stradic. Catch mostley white bass, they fight for a second then you dont even feel like they are there. If I let my lure sit on the bottom and bounce it ill pull in channel cats. I still like blue gills over large mouth. UNHIJACKED

A female Apisto with fry, it will be entertaining and you will need to pull carcasses, you will end up with a bunch of Apistos that are not much larger than a guppy.....DC

I first picked up a fly rod about four years ago, and I will never go back to any other kind of fishing. I think it's by far the most challenging, entertaining, and exciting way to fish. Now if only I could convince PA to lower their fishing licenses enough to make me willing to buy one again....

Of all the suggestions listed here, I'd say the best long term one is simply to remove the females to another tank. I started with six guppies about two years ago, and I can't begin to count how many I have now. And any predator I've put in there for population control has only done a marginal job.

When my wife got into guppies, I just got them their own tank and made it clear they were staying in that tank. When it gets a bit full, I just take the guppies and give them to people I know with tanks, run them down the street to a place that sells fish ( not a lfs... you'd have to see this place to know what I mean, heh), and so forth. Lately I set up another tank and separated males and females, which should take care of most of that.

If euthanization is the course followed, I've found clove oil to work well as well. It can be bought at most of your scented oils/health type places. A couple drops shook up in a gallon container full of their tank water, and then just leave them in it. It'll knock them out humanely, kind of like they're being put under for an operation, and then you just leave them until there is no gill movement.

Not a good idea. The eugenol in clove oil will severely anesthetize them, not kill them. They are just in a very deep sleep. Once they are out with eugenol, a small amount of vodka in the water will finish the job, quite painlessly.

^^Vodka ?? what a waste !

The best way is this :

Take a icecream/tupperware container filled with water and put it in the freezer, leave it there till there is a layer of ice on the top(half hour).
Break the ice then net the fish and dip it into the water, almost instant death.

All these ways to kill or knock out a fish and I still like this suggestion.

The way Ive always heard was just plain alcohol. Standard medical supply type found in your medicine cabinet. It is instantaneous. I believe I read this in either TFH magazine of it could have been "The concienscious marine aquarist".

As for a huter, if you have a good lid, maybe a African Butterfly? Beautiful fish and they eat the lil ones like candy.
