breeding discus is a whole different ballgame...it will happen as long as you let nature take its toll. I have a male that is over anxious (horny)...the first female he constantly mated with passed, but he constantly hounds another female after every water change...there is usually a set of eggs every other week, but they only last a few hours since the parents are still more interested in bloodworms....next thing its a pecking-fest from the others to gobble the eggs.
Your water params seem fine...diablo is right about RO and TDS. I'm choosing the low maintenance route and just letting them grow with what they have...I'm done spending a fortune on fish stuff (have to start saving for an eng. ring). IMO, I would shoot for 4-inch fish...a bit hardier and they will still grow into your tank. You'll still have to keep feedings up to get them to grow correctly and prevent the football shape.

Man, I know I had hardish water (GH 12 to 14), but had no idea that my TDS would be so high. It is ~350 ppm out of the tap, but my tank is nearly double that (~600 ppm)! Looks like I'm going to have to do some water changes with 100% RO for a while. Maybe once I've reached a lower TDS reading in the tank I can start cutting the RO with the tap (to maintain a GH of about 4).
