I hate fish!

Ok I bought 2 blue groumis and 2 blue paradise fish from my LFS store yesterday, they where both in the same tank, and doing fine. I also grabed 2 swordtails and 2 ottos i was happy so I wake up today to see one of my blue groumis kicking the hell out of everything! I grabed him and put him in a bucket for now....then ! i see my 2 ottos dead, with there stomachs eaten out! me so mad! now the 2 paradise fish are dueling! this isent how a community tank should work! fish just chasing each other and hiding in the corner! Im so mad at this, I got dead guppies all over the tank too! something killing them Im so tempted to flush all these fish

Well, Gouramis and Paradise Fish are notoriously territorial. Seems like you may have put together a bad mix.

What size is the aquarium?

Yikes. Keeping fish healthy is difficult enough without a war breaking out.

Get some tetras .

*edit: that is, after you get those nasty Osphronemidaes out of your tank.

Please don't flush your fish. It is a horrible, painful death for them. A 35 gallon with lots of rock probably is leaving them with little room to live, it's no wonder they are attacking each other.

When I see fish that I like in LFS, I do my best to resist the temptation to just buy them, I googled as much as background info I could then decide. That way I can be sure that there will be no war on my tank.

Bring the survivor fish back to the shop and asked for credits.

Exactly and ditto. My last trip to the LFS, when I picked up some more cardinal tetras, he pointed out some adult Congo tetras to me. The species is unfamiliar to me so I managed to resist and said I'd do some research on them. Turns out they're another shoaling/schooling fish, and while gorgeous, I don't need another schooling fish in my tank, so they're staying at the LFS. I'd love to have a pair of angels, but I think that with a pair of FFF and Blue Rams already in residence (the FFF more than the Rams) that'd be asking for trouble.

by tons of rock i mean the rock is all along the back so there is still lots of room to live and hide, now one fish just lives in the rock and the other in the front...

is this your first tank? i suggest before venturing in to it you ask whoever your buying the tank from, meaning if you buy it from a pet store that sell fish.. ask for advice on what fish can go with what, also as said.. google is a good place to start, get a fish book they normaly will contain every species you will ever find in a fish store.. and are only about £10 or something like that. and are normaly the best starting ground for keeping fish.

You cant get mad with nature. how mad would you be if your pet lion ate your dog after putting them together? unaware of the fact that your lion will kill your dog pretty quick.

and im speaking metaphoricaly btw im not suggesting you have a loin or a dog..

if your thinking about flushing them for this.. then maybe this aint your hobby. think about making a few caves that are size permitting... and add some plastic or real plants.

in my experience... guppys dont mix with gouramis... they have a nasty nature ina sense and are territorial, and guppys look tasty.. there slow and gouramis are very quick.

swords are just as tasty looking to gouramis. but are a bit bigger so might be ok. maybe the extremes of territory have drove them all to be so bullyish againts everything including your ottos.

as proposed.. take whats still alive back to the store.. maybe it would be worth getting 5-10 tetras, a couple plecs and and some more swords.

ive kept gouramis with guppys in the past.. but normaly 1 of a pair is a bully, people either get shy ones, or nasty ones..

this is not my fish tank I have multiple saltwater tanks, and have only kept freshwater piranhas(i know there are not salt ones lol) this is my first community tanks yes..the guppies are just feeder guppies Im using to take the stress off the other fish, my swords are left alone, and I even have ghost shrimp alive still, but yes I may take them back and get tetras and other things....I want tiger barbs, but ive only heard mean things

Yup... research is your friend.

Blue gouramis and paradise fish mixed is WWIII waiting to happen.

I would suggest taking both back and if you're bent on having gouramis, get some dwarfs.

If you plan on having long-finned fish, tiger barbs are not a good choice either.

Yes, take them back! That's the problem, even though you may think even after research that you have the perfect community tank, it ends up that fish can't read and a rouge fish takes out the tank! RoseHawke, cardinals and neons are angel food in the wild. I'm wondering how things will go when I put my young angels in the tank with the cardinals too.
