Helping hiding ottos

I have 3 ottos in a 10g with my betta. This betta is pretty agressive, and the ottos are hiding under a piece of driftwood. They've been hiding for so long that I thought they were dead. I found them last weekend when I was rearranging the plants. They look great, but they are obviously living in fear. I got 4 platties to take the pressure off of them, put them in the tank, but it looks like they have fin rot, so they're in QT now. The betta chased them quite a bit too, but was settling down after a few days.
I tried to plant a lot around the driftwood that they are hiding under, to make it a pain for the betta to get to them, but I notice he still goes down to where they are hiding.
Last weekend I rescaped and opened up most of the tank. I have mostly small leafed plants in there now, no broad leafed ones.
My question is- is there something I can do to make the ottos more comfortable? Or should I take them out and put them in my 30g? I have had problems with diatomaceous algae, but they're apparently too scared to really be effective at taking care of that right now.....
Thanks for the help!

you could put the betta in a small floating container in the tank, one in which he can see the fish, but cant get to them. Then you can see if it really is the betta thats causing the problems; ottos can swim much faster than Bettas, so they could get away easily.

Default Are you sure

it's the betta? Ottos tend to hide alot sometimes on their own. I have 12 in a 125 gal (ok big tank yeah) and they love to stay in dark corners.. Now sometimes at feeding time, they don't show, but sometimes they do..but I always have alot of food that goes to the bottom because I'm feeding alot of bottom feeders.
