Name confusion with rams

I am having difficulty with the following. German Ram, German blue ram, blue ram. Are they all the same? If they are different, could someone attach some latin names to them. I do know that one of them is M. ramirezi.

The german blues are breed for their color.. and mainly nothing else.. do not mate as easy or well as wild blue rams.. =[.. which means either have them for show or breeding.. also german being raised and breed at such extremes.. from what i have read are more succeptable to being harder to keep alive..

bellisb925:

You have it right with M. ramirezi. There are a lot of varieties breed though (just like angelfish, goldfish, bettas... one scientific name many types). So you have wilds, blues or Germans from when they were imported, golds, balloon, long fin and I am sure several others. I prefer "stock" rams with normal fins and decent coloring. Beware of anything wild as there is a good chance they have parasites (think discus, angels) and should be treated/quarantined fully.
