Pearl Gourami in Community Tank

What's been your experience with these fish? I'm thinking of adding a pair to my 100 gallon, which also has silver tip tetras, otocinclus, SAE's, panda corys, kuhli loaches and amano shrimp.

I was talking to a guy at the LFS today and was surprised to hear his opinion that they are not good community fish and would torment all other inhabitants in the tank. Has this been your experience? I thought just the opposite would be true - that if any would be a victim, it would be the pearls.

Pearls are probably the best choice of the Gourami family for a community tank. They seem to have the most even temperment...not aggressive or too shy. Plus they're outright gorgeous, both male and female.

The only question is whether or not the Silver-tips will get nippy with the fin threads of the males.

Thanks for the input Bill. I may try out a pair and just watch the interactions with the tetras very closely. I agree, they're beautiful fish.

I also think the gouramis should be fine. I think they won't pay too much attention to the other fish.

Pearl gouramis are gorgeous! Enjoy them!

Hey, thanks Mike! I'm thinking I'll go out and get a pair and feel confident in the choice. I was really kind of taken off guard when the guy at the store told me that and wanted to make sure that I wasn't getting something that would pose a problem. Thanks again for the help!

I picked up a pair yesterday and so far, so good! They're not bothering anyone and no one's bothering them...

That's great. I was thinking a pair of honey or dwarf gouramis myself - smaller tanks.
