Attached are pictures of the tank . . any suggestions? I have some java moss that needs to be weeded out of there, and the log on the right side in the pic, isn't water logged yet, but kinda trapped by the cover.
Other than that i have some Val (i think), Crypt, Java fern and Anubias to work with.
Edited to add: 55 gallon, low tech.
I'm currently working on a project that requires more photographs of aquascapes than I am currently capable of furnishing, so I would like to ask those of you who would like to contribute, if you wouldn't mind sending me some snap-shots of your layouts. If used, I'll make sure you're fully credited under whatever alias/name and source, etc you prefer and let you know the details as best as I can give them to you for what they'll be used for. In particular, I'm looking for Iwagumi layouts and designs, but any good aquascapes are always welcome.

If this is something you're interested in, you can either pm me or post the photo's here. Obviously, it's strictly voluntary, but a project that is well worth it in my humble opinion!

I hope I've posted this in the correct place. I have a habit of posting in the wrong place here! Please accept my apology in advance! I rescaped my tank last week and am looking to ad a few more plants. I am just not that familiar with the different species and I have looked at so many over the past month that my head is about to explode. I figured getting the advice of those more experienced would be quit helpful. I'd like you to recommend some plants that may fit my tank well.

This is a ten gallon stainless frame tank with a slate bottom. It is 10 inches from the substrate to the surface. I have DIY CO2 with a diffuser. My water is PH 7.5 out of the tap. The top is open and it is only about 8 gallons of water. I have two 18W bulbs @ 6500K. I have RCS and Otos in the tank. It has been set up since march of 2006. Current plants are, A. Coffee, Java fern, Java Fern 'Windlov', Echinodorus angustifolius 'vesuvius', Hydrocotyle verticillata, Marsilea minutia, Dwarf Sag and this...Hemianthus micranthemoides aka Pearl Weed ?

I would like a moss. I would put some on the left end of the horizontal DW and some between the two rocks in the front. I am going to move the pearl weed once it starts to wake up a bit (I left it in a bucket too long). I'm not exactly sure where yet. For the moss I'm thinking Fissidens.

Behind the piece of DW on the right I want another variety of Fern. I'm thinking Java needle leaf or Java Trident.

A little further to the right rear I was thinking a broadleaf plant like C. Lutea or maybe I should leave it.

I would also like LIMNOPHILA 'GUINEA BROAD-LEAF' but I don't know where to put it.

I don't want something that grows really tall or spreads all over either.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and help if you can.

Hi everyone, this is the first time I've scaped my tank. It's been planted now for about 2 wks, I've added the background, and am watching the foreground grow in :)

I'm still getting quite a bit of algae on the glass and on the wood, and it's ironically pearling on the wood lol - it's not the bad kind of algae though, and is food for the plecos so I'm ok w/ it for the moment.

The l.aromatica is growing in VERY quickly; 2-3 inches in a week, but is not growing in very red. I've been told to reduce nitrates to remedy this. The ferns and the tonina look like crap and I don't know what I'm doing wrong with them.

Specs:
Catalina light; 4x39w; 3 bulbs 6700k, 1 bulb 10000k.

Photoperiod is 4 hours w/ 2 bulbs, 4 hours with all 4 bulbs, then 3 hours with 2 bulbs

Dosing flourish excel and co2 at 2 bps through a diy reactor I built

Filtration is an eheim 2026

Substrate is eco complete.

The ugly heater at the bck is temporary until I get one to go inline. I'll also be adding an inline uv sterilizer 9w turbo twist shortly.

Any feedback on the scape would be VERY MUCH appreciated!

Tank is 29 g, low tech, about 2.5 wpg. Had DIY CO2 but havent refilled in a long time. Pretty good growth with or without it.

Majority of plant mass is water wisteria, but all do have the anubias, java fern(needle, and windelov) crypt wednii bronze, crypt balanese, small sword, crypt retrosparalis, vals, anacharis, hornwort, and some grassy thing in front right. Probably somethign else i cannot remember.

Also ahve a couple small pieces of driftwood with a bit or moss attached. I have both large and small river rock/boulder i could add.

Here are the pics of the current tank.

Hi all, I have been thinking lately about rescaping my tank. However, this time I want to do it right and before I venture down this pass want to ask some questions. So feel free to add suggestions as you see fit. I think I will do this project in the next 2-3 months, so lots of time to gather the info.

I currently have a planted discus tank and after all is said and done still want to have a planted discus tank. The reason for rescaping the current set up are as follows:

First and foremost my current substrate is not up to the challenge. I originally mixed large (1cm) and small (2-3mm) gravel together. Did not use any sand on my heating cables and did not use any other substrate additions.

I find now that my gravel gets dirty quickly and the dirt gets easily trapped in between the pebbles. Also, now I know that larger gravel is not good for plants. Finally, not sure if this is gravel or fish bioload but I find that my substrate becomes stagnant and has bubbles forming in it.

So, what should I want out for while tearing everything down and changing the gravel? Please share your experiences for do's and don'ts.

Also, what substrate should I go for? Eco Complete Florabase ect?
Do people use different substrates and what about using soil?

I will be using heating cables, so where would I get the right sand that would not break the bank and not alter the Ph? Also, I have seen people use a mesh for attaching cables and was wondering where they got the mesh from.

Think this should be a good start.

Okay so in my mind's eye I was able to visualize what my 20-long would look like if I blended a little E. tenellus into a carpeted foreground, so that there would be some pinkish highlights here and there. It looked fantastic in my imagination, so I went ahead and placed the tenellus where I thought it would go great as a highlight. This was what I ended up with:

Now, the problem is I haven't technically decided what the actual carpet plant will be. I'm leaning strongly toward glosso, but HC also seems to keep popping into my head. It just seems that the glosso, while potentially more demanding of my attention, would just look fantastic blended with the tenellus. I really don't know.

So, I need other people's thoughts on the matter. What foreground would look great blended with tenellus? This tank will also have plenty of dutch-scaped stem plants all over the sides and back, so this will not be an all-carpet tank. Just thought I'd mention that. ;)

(By the way, this will be a high-light tank with pressurized CO2 injection, and EI fertilizing).

I've heard that it's 99% inert in most cases, and I did not see anything else on the rocks besides quartz so I boiled it and threw it in the tank. (Yes I know I should have probably put it in a bucket of water and tested the parameters before I took the plunge, but I'm very impulsive.) :icon_redf

I was just curious as to whether people have had any issues using quartz in their tanks, or if there's anything I should be concerned with.

Oh, and it looks really cool under my moonlights!
