new air pump for my tanks?

I have six different Rena air pumps driving sponge filters and air stones in nine different tanks (one or two tanks per air pump). I am looking at replacing five of those pumps with one high volume pump and the Coralife Super Luft SL-65 is the main contender. Does anyone have any personal experience with this and can either recommend it or convince me not to buy it? Are there better solutions out there for the price?

You're gonna love it. And kick your self for not getting it earlier.

One thing I forgot to ask is if it is noisy. It will be in the room right next to my bedroom.

I picked up the Super Luft SL-65 from my LFS a couple of days ago and it sure does the job. I have it driving sponge filters on four tanks right now (with a fifth to be added soon) and the output is fantastic.

How is the noise level? I just started searching for an air pump to run multiple sponge filters on 6 30G tanks I just got. They will be set up in my living room.

It is noisy, there is no question about that. I don't know that it would work in a living room when you are trying to watch TV or listen to other people talk.

It's a good starter pump but it is noisy since it's magnetic instead of a linear piston like the Jehmco LPH60 which is dead quite but expensive.

I've got the LS-65 and it's ok in my fish-room for the short term while I save up for the Jemcho but I wouldn't put it in a living area.

Thanks for the follow up on the noise level of the SL-65.

I've been looking at the linear piston air pumps but they appear to be larger than what I need. I'm only going to be running six 30 Gallon tanks.

Then the LPH26 might be what your looking for and at $195 it isn't that much more than the SL-65 compared to the bigger models.

What about the DAPMH15 or DAPPH30 at Jehmco ?http://www.jehmco.com/html/diaphragm...html#DAPMH8-15

Does anyone know about these? Are they louder than the SL-65? What about output?

I currently run the DAPMH15 and I LOVE IT! It is super quiet and ONLY 15 watts! I've heard those Coralife Luft pumps are loud and not as powerful! I'd suggest the DAPMH15 ...... But I plan on picking up the DAPPH30 next, esp. for $99!

It's a diaphragm pump just like the little blue ones you get at Wal-Mart it just has more volume. It's not going to be as quite or as powerfull as a liniar pump or even the LS-65.

The DAPMH15 will be louder than the LS-65 and the LS-65 is louder than the LPH60.

There are four types of air pumps:

1.) Diaphragm: the standard variety that you can get at LFS & Wal-Mart
2.) Magnetic: A step up in LPM so it handles more tanks but is noisy
3.) Linear Piston: The best in class for LPM and the least noisy
4.) Regenerative Blowers: The big dog it produces the higest LPM of anything but sounds like a helicopter
