60-P knockoff needs filter...
I am starting a new tank and I just ordered a 70w MH from FishNeedIt.com as a catalyst to get it going. It will have a 6700k bulb to start, but someday I'd like to find an 8000k if they make them in 70w... (maybe you know where to look...)
Anyways, with this lighting a rimless 24"x15"x15" (~20 Gallons), what filter should I be looking at? I have a 2028 on my 40 gallon (48"x15"x15") and a 2213 on my 10 gallon which I might tear down soon. I want to stick with eheim for low energy consumption and quiet operation. Impressive things... Any thoughts as to a great eheim for this size tank? The stronger the better from my experience. I fear the 2217 because I dont want to pay 110.00 for lily pipes that fit it. The different hose sizes are a nightmate on that awesome filter. Thanks! |

2215 would probably pack enough punch with that extra 40 GPH to push through an inline heater and keep the vortex with the lily pipe that the 2213 cannot do. I'll look into it, but I might just try and save a little for now as I may need to buy some plants from the S&S soon. Thanks for the ideas

FWIW, I upgraded from a 2215 to a 2217 on my 60-P. A 2215 does work, but a 2217 is just a bit better when things start growing in a bit more densly
Also, I've found that the Watergrass brand 8000K bulbs are a bit too green. First choice would be an AquaMedic 10K, but they are a bit spendy. A good second choice is the Ushio 10K at about $40.

Thanks for the suggestion on a 2217. Would a 2028 be overkill? I have that on my 40 and would fear it blowing my fish and plants away, but one can control its flow in theory (I haven't actually tried this). The reason I ask is I can get a 2028 for $200 with media. A 2217 is $150 with media, but the hoses are unique sizes... making it more expensive if I wish to use those elegant lily pipes than even measurements.
