No. Not at all. Someone emailed them and asked them what is contained in the reference solution.

You know that with a 4 dKH and a pH of 6.6, you'll have 30 ppm of CO2. This comes from the pH/KH//CO2 relationship charts.

The 6.6 pH buffer reference solution is there to show you what the shade of the green color should look like at 30 ppm of CO2. You can then adjust your CO2 level accordingly by observing the color of the indicator solution.

I think that it's neat! It addresses the major problem with drop checkers by showing you what the correct shade of green is.

Ok, so what keeps the reference solution from collecting C02 and changing color? I assume its the "buffer" part of the reference solution.........

That's a good question and I don't know the answer. I haven't seen one in person yet.

It looks like the reference solution chamber, bottom one, has a plug in it to keep it from getting co2 enriched tank water into it. You take out the plug, fill it with the solution and put the plug back in.
I don't have one, that's just how it looks from the pictures.

I think what you are seeing is the glass part were the reference solution is put in.....However, that could still be plugged! Not sure if that's how, but its one way!

Thanx!
