staining oak black

I'm making an aquarium stand and I've skinned it with Oak ply. I bought an Ebony Minwax stain and I've put two coats on a test piece and I'm not too impressed so far. It is a little too light colored for my taste. Has anyone stained Oak black before? any advice.

add another coat or continue adding coats until you achieve your desired finish

that's the plan, hopefully it will darken up to my taste.

Or, buy yourself a small container of black oil-base paint and add a little to your stain (of course only if your stain is oil-based)
