GE Silicone II

Hello;

I would like to know if GE Silicone II for Windows & Doors is aquarium safe? It doesn't mention any anti-fungals or anything that I can find. The reason I am asking is because it says it has a bond of 7 to plastics, where Silicone I only has a bond of 3.

Thanks
Sean

If its for Doors and Windows I would bet money it has some
sort anti mold chem in it.

I'd stick with the Silc. I or look for the small red/white tube of GE "100% Silicone Sealant" .... "for plastic sheets and other plastics"

I have bought it at both Home Depot and Lowes.
Comes in hand size 3oz tubes.

I've heard that it contains an anti fungal agent called 'BioSeal.' Regardless of whether or not it's on the label, (according to posters in various forums) the formula is the same.

Search for 'BioSeal' in vivaria and fishy forums. There's a lot of debate about it. A lot of people say they use it without problems. I personally haven't seen any real evidence that would lead me to believe it's unsafe.

I've never had issues using GE silicone I for doors and windows. All of the ge silicone I is all the same as far as I know, they just repackage it for different uses(i.e. kitchen and bath). I can't really comment about the GE II stuff. Heard that anti-fungal stuff wasn't good for the tank, never wanted to find out for myself. I would just use the GE I, a bunch of people have used without any problems. And, it's a bit cheaper than the other stuff so that's a plus.

Yeah I did read somewhere that even the GE Silicone II for Windows & Doors has bioseal in it. So I just continued using Silicone I.

I use GE silicone sealant II with no problems at all. I think the bond of 7 has stronger bonding capacity than the bond of 3. As long as you give the silicone sealant the proper time to set before you use it, you should be ok.The bioseal should be a new special formula meant for resistance the accumulation of molds and mildews that could penetrate the seal over a period of time. That should also be a plus factor for us that it should resist algae in our tanks too.
