Question

DIY Yeast CO2 with Red Sea 500 Reactor

Hello,

Will a Red Sea 500 Reactor work effectively with DIY Yeast CO2? I've heard that the Red Sea 500 relies on pressure from the CO2 in order to dissolve effectively in the water and that DIY yeast will not be able to produce the necessary amount of CO2 (pressure).

If this is true, will using two or more 2 liter bottles produce the necessary pressure, instead of one?

Thank you for your help.

I used that reactor with my DIY C02 and it worked great.
It does rely on pressure but the pressure from the 2L bottle is enough.
(it doesn't need much)

Only problem I had was that I found out after a went to pressurized C02 was that I had the reactor upside down for months.
So my c02 from the DIY system could have been a lot higher than it was.

I have two redsea CO2 cannisters chained up to the 500 reactor. My tank size is a 40 gallon with a 70w HQI, probably not enough light and co2 at this point, but have spent too much this year on the tank.. Everything has been working GREAT! Every now and then a bunch of tiny, non-dissovable bubbles will spurt out and rise to the surface. It's nice to know this reactor will work with a pressurized system when I'm ready to drop a few more bills

By that you mean you flipped the reactor chamber down right? I mean so that the CO2 tubing comes out of the top of the chamber?

Thanks

I'm also considering getting one. Are there any downsides to this unit?
