Whats the use of baking soda in DIY CO2?

I have read a few times about people using "about a pinch" of baking soda in their DIY mixes? I am needing to re-make my batch and was wondering if I should add some or not? Give it a try and see if it makes a difference? Thanks

Baking soda helps to keep the acidity down so it wont kill your yeast.

Yep, even though I heard mix reviews on the whole idea. Just don't add too much.
