Algae Grower

With the generosity of one of their members, RocketEngineer, many of the guys over at Reefcentral use the following template and design with great success, and is adaptable to aquariums of all shapes and sizes. It looks to be a much simpler design and easier to do, and all sorts of engineers and nerds have done the math up and down on the thread and have thoroughly tested it. I'll be building my own stand soon enough following it, for my soon to be 38g planted tank, and eventually a 180g+ reef.
Hope this helps in some way, please don't just look at the picture and dismiss it, I suggest reading alot of the comments and seek some of the pictures later on in the thread. The math and such gets interesting on page 2? I think. http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/sh...readid=1169964 |

Thanks Zissou,
I knew about that thread. The design is very good, however I don't feel it's adequately overbuild. The design will definitely hold any size tank, since I'm not an structural engineer I can't comment too much. But imagine someone pushing the stand side to side, let assume without the plywood skin, the only thing that keep the stand straight is those 2x4 legs connected to the bottom frame, and they buckle easier (not easily) than if the legs goes directly to the floor. The recommendation I got to have the 2x4 legs goes to the floor also came from a rocket engineer if that'll help to add some reassurance.
