Standpipe is not in the picture. It's on the intake. The sump is 40 gallons which can hold the extra water.

Threaded joints work just fine, you can get a glue on union as well if that's what you prefer. It's not necessary by any means if it really messes up your plans don't use one. It sounds like a good plan so far.
