End cap fitting/snapping into stand off question

OK, got the endcaps wired, (put the wires through the openings in the stand offs to the end-caps), but only one end cap seems to want to snap into the stand off securely. What do you do to get them to stay in the stand-offs? Did I miss something?

LOL, tried that, one snapped in but maybe I've got the wires in wrong? Are they supposed to go through the gap in the base where it snaps into the stand-off? I didn't do that and maybe that's why I can't snap it in?
