Paintball CO2 can questions

I am planning on setting up a nano tank.

I just bought 2 used 20oz cans and a regular CO2 regulator. I do know how to set up the regulator and other stuff because currently I am running a pressurize CO2 20# tank on my 150 gal. tank.

My question is.....
There is a valve screwed into the can and there is a nut. See pic. Is that nut is use to turn on/off the CO2 after I screw in my regulator?

OR do I need another on/off valve?

Thanks.

Is there a small hole on the side of the nut? If so I believe that its the pressure relief valve though some Paintball tanks can come with an on/off valve.
If you need to get an on/off valve, I recommend this one. Its worked well for me so far.

Which regulator are you using?

Not sure if there is a small whole on the side of the nut. I will check when I get home later.

I am using this regulator - got it from Ebay.

that nut is a burst disk, if the pressure is too much it has a small disk inside of the nut that will burst and relieve all the pressuer, its a safety thing.

I also would like to use my paintball tank as a co2 injector how would i do this?
If you have any questions regarding the paintball tank please ask me, I hope the hydro test date is up too date. How old is the tank? a paintball take will last about 5 years.

smart parts has great on/off buttons for co2 tanks.

Yes, there is a small hole going thru that nut.

So, I should replace that valve with an on/off inline valve?

Hydro test before 03 2010.

Yes you need to replace the valve with an on/off valve, however you have probably have to stick to paintball valves. Mad is right, thats a burst disk, and you can get the paintball valves with an on/off switch. The problem is that you might not be able to get it refilled if you change to anything other than a pin valve thats standard on all PB tanks. Places like sports auth. or PB shops will definitely not refill it if its not a pin.

Just a note, if you remove that pressure relief valve most places will refuse to refill it. Like already mentioned its a safety feature.

[Edit] Looks like Uk beat me to it...but yeah...what he said...lol

You don't have to replace the pin valve you already have with the on/off valve I recommend. It just screws onto the pin valve. The one that Ukrainetz recommends would definitely look better, especially if your co2 set up is being displayed.

OK.....now I understand.

I have 2 choices.....

1. Replace the pin valve with a new pin valve that have the on/off valve.
2. Get an on/off valve that screw on top the pin valve.

Thanks again guys......

Now shopping time..

I'm confused. Why are you changing the valve on top of the tank?

If it helps, I put some pictures up on this thread. I posted the same thread on TPT a while ago, but no one replied and the thread went to the great abyss

You can see a picture of an installed on/off valve there that works successfully.

You say in that thread that the paintball bottle puts out about 500psi. My paintball bottles put out 800psi but I am using a red sea regulator for paintball bottles. Also doesn't the cornelius regulator you are using leak at all? It looks like one that is for regular co2 tanks.

Sorry about all the questions. Just curious.

The person who started this thread was probably looking to use a standard co2 regulator and adapt a paintball tank for use with it. That's why there have been mentions of the on/off valve. You would only really need the valve if you wanted to screw on a regulator with CGA 320 threading. The sweet thing about adapting the tank, rather than buying a paintball-geared regulator is that it'll be extremely easy to switch from a paintball tank to a regular tank if I decide to do that later on. I think there are ways to adapt the paintball-geared regulators to the bigger tanks too though

The pressure of your tank should be variable with the temperature, so if you keep it warm in your place in Delaware, that would explain it. My dorm room is kept at a temperature of 73. As for any leaks, no there are none in my set-up. So far at about 1-2 bps, the paintball tank has been going for 2 months now.
