OK, new question for all you geniuses!
can you think of a common household or utility item that's cheap and easily available, that will work like a tank's surface water viewer; ![]() my first thought was to find a typical laboratory beaker or vase, but it's hard to find something wide with a clear flat glass bottom. ![]() in addition, what items would make it all work outside in the sun without having to endure a lot of reflection from the sky above. ![]() is there some knick name, or vernacular term used for this item, that would help me google around for other items like I described? |

Beaker is what I'd go with. Paint the sides black, and get up close to the opening, or use an umbrella
. However a flask would be a better seal if you're only using one eye
