variable flow water circulators?

just a crazy idea that sprung up while staring at my aquariums.

a few days ago, i shut off my small powerhead and turned down the flowrate of my canister to under half the speed and this morning, i woke up to find BGA on a couple strands of my dwarf hairgrass!

i suppose the cause of this was the lack of water movement and have thus been thinking of ways to create micro currents in the freshwater aquarium.

does anyone have ideas on how to acomplish this?

How big is your tank? When I was using a powerhead to circulate bubbles I had a Aqua Clear 10 '80gph' powerhead and it seem to have the perfect flow. It did not make the plants about wildly....actually had very little movement when on low.

Not suure about what your asking for other than a wave maker:
there are a couple things you can use to change the current flow in your tank:
You should be able to find things like this in your area:

my tank measures 60"x12"x18" (LxWxD).

i did think of wavemakers but they're really pricey and overly powerful IMO..

so i was thinking of smth really compact that could be placed in the tank to move the water about gently and at a variable flow.

Both of the above are dependant on what pump or powerhead to put them on.

There is also a power head called powersweep which has a flow that cycles from left to right.
