Replacing upper frame on tank??

Have to replace the upper fame or foil ( black plastic piece around the top of the tank) on my 120gal.
Would it just be a case of draining the tank cutting it of & putting the new one on W/ silicone?? ...or is it easier said than done??
Has anyone done this before without running into problems??

Thanks~Pete

If you are talking about the top frame, yes I replaced one on a 65 gallon. Piece of cake. Get a new one and make sure if fits first. Drain the tank. Pull the old top frame off, start at a corner and lift straight up, move to other corners if need be until one releases, once it starts it will come off easy. Scrape old silicone off glass, be careful easy to get cut doing this (been there done that really hurts). Put fresh silicone in the channel of the new top frame, do not over do it with the silicone. NOTE: If you put too much silicone into the channel it will press out when the top frame is put on and squezze down between the top frame and the glass (been there done that, it will be very ugly to look at). Place top frame onto tank, make sure it is sitting all the way down and all the glass is seated in the top frame channel, this could take considerable down force to get it completely into the channel, be careful doing this. Turn tank over on a level surface and sit it on top frame to cure for at least 24 hours. It is very easy to do but use caution.
