Fixing cracked glass
Hello all
I have a chance to get a 55 gallon 3long by 18back and 24high. It has good sized cracks in one of the biggest pieces of glass from top to bottom. Any good links for repairing tanks or is it a fools hope to do such a thing? thanks |

If your time is worth much then I would say it's not worth trying to fix it. 55 gallon tanks are pretty cheap.

You will need a piece of glass the right size and thickness. And some aquarium safe silicone.

Scolly has a lot of experiance with the silicon, if you read his thread that is sticky in this section he lists the one that worked well for him. I would start about 4 pages from the end.

What's peace of mind cost? Around 100 bucks, if you are buying a new 55 gallon at my LFS. Seriously, don't bother trying to fix it because approximately 55 gallons of water on the floor can cause thousands of dollars worth of damage. Think of it as insurance against the worst case scenario.
