5 min Reactor!

Hey everyone, I was looking at reactors that hook up to canister filters and powerheads inside the aquarium, I was looking at it, and thought wow what a simple thing to make! It cost 50$!!! So why not make my own for free! Anyways I had all the parts lying around, so what did I do? MADE IT! It works so great also, complete diffusion! You may have seen it before, but hey I want to share anyways just in case. The powerhead pushes out 160gph but after going through the reactor, didnt even push up any dift from my flourite (didnt wash it first, still messy). Heres the pictures!

What I did was, drill some holes in the tube for the suction cups. The tube is a gravel vac. I got them on there, stuck some filter floss in the bottom, and put a screen over it to hold the filter floss in, drilled a hole in the top to feed the DIY CO2 airline in and turned it on! Its getting 12bpm and completely diffusing it. So much better then running it through a powerhead like I was before. Hope this helped! Also sorry for the blurry pictures, I don't have the steadest hand

You got any pictures or anyting Fishyboy? I'm quiet interested since the only think you can really see in my tank is the CO2 thing and the output of the XP3. Rolo its a Maxi-jet MP 600 and does 160gph

cool thanks, I like the way you did yours also, but since mine would have to be behind this huge wood thing and I dont want to do that, plus I need SOME water current in my tank...since my XP3 is the only think pushin it, plus I think my hose is way to big for my gravel vac.

is there a certain tube size so like the powerhead can hook up to the gravel vac thingy.

i've been thinking about making one myself as well but i wouldn't know what size tubing to get that would fit on the output of the powerhead and go into the gravel tube

I've been using the same reactor for a few months. I did it cause I got annoyed by the noise of bubbles "grinding" in my AC150 filter. Though it was excellent dissolver.

FobbyBobby, I bought a Rio 600 powerhead/pump and a simple siphon at petsmart. The siphon came with tubing that obviously fits to the gravel vac part. The Rio comes with several different size tube attachment adapters and they also fit to the tubing. I don't think you could go wrong if you bought them both.

If you have a tank taller then 16" I would recommend the Rio 800, otherwise the 600.

The thing worked great but my co2 didnt. It was DIY and not helping so why have it in the tank? lol. I still have the reactor though.

I have been trying to find a good way to diffuse co2 for months... i had my co2 line (diy yeast bottle) going into the intake of an emperor 280 HOB, but i didnt find that it was very effective. It took me about ten minutes to put this DIY Reactor together, Thank you!
