Default Aquarium

Hi everyone new to the forum. Tons of great stuff here. Anyway my wife and I keep a membership to the aquarium and the new Amazon exhibit is awesome. I just wish it were bigger. When she got to see some of the smae fish and plants I keep I think it validated my hobby and all the tanks in the house a bit.

Welcome to the board Sushistix!

Wow this is getting to be real good now. We must have at least 10 members in the connecticut area now. A trip to Mystic would be an awesome Idea. We'd all be able to meet each other for the first time.

Maybe we could talk to the people over at mystic aquarium to see if they'd be interested in hosting a tropical fish/planted tank club at thier facility in the off season. We only need a small room..... for now

What do you guys think?

Marcel

I'm certainly game Marcel! But I can't help but think how that is such an easy ride for me (15 minutes) and a really difficult ride for some others. So I suppose my "yes" vote matters less than the opinions of those that have to haul it in from a longer distance...

Then again, having it down here on some occasion might encourage a courtesy visit from some of our distinguished NY/NJ members.

oops - buck posted on me while I was typing...

Sure! I can get together a few people to take a ride up to Mystic.

If you guys are serious, we can work on a date.

Mike

Man, I need to wake up! Sorry! You guys are talking about Mystic now... not the Norwalk Aquarium anymore. Sorry. Can I just retract my last bone-headded post? Now I'm one of the people schlepping the distance!

But that's OK. Still thumbs up from me!

We're talking about Mystic because they have an amazon biotope exhibit up there.

I think it'd be great to get together at a place like this. We can all bring plants to swap, check out the exhibits, maybe we could even help the museum out with thier biotope in exchange for a meeting place (I'm always shooting the angles).

OK - Mystic Aquarium is great. Now we need someone to step up and volunteer to organize this. I would, but I have a long list of work-related excuses (notice I haven't written up my tank building lessons learned yet - busy!).

So who's it gonna be?

If we adjourn to a watering hole, I'll try to make amends for not organizing by buying the first round.

I can give organizing this a go. Probably easiest for me since it is only five minutes down the road. I need to know who is interested(how many) and what we will need/do. This is new to me.

That is a very nice gesture to organize this sush

I will go, I just need a date and time from you guys.
Sush, You would have to ask but I believe the aquarium has a room where they hold classes for scout groups, school groups etc. , maybe you could stop by and see if we can reserve it for an hour or so. Also ask if we can get a "behind the scenes" look at some of their plumbing.

If everyone wants too, there is a great steakhouse almost right next to the aquarium where we could eat and chat after.

Just a couple thoughts.

Buck I maintain tech support for a software development company. I also do testing on new products and updates. And you're talking about th Steakloft(it is good). The owner of that restuarant also owns Go Fish which is right next door. I was a sushi chef there for awhile. Hence the name.

Buck I was just checking out your site. I guess it never occured to me that I could use local plants in the tank. That's a great idea but I think I'll have to act fast with the weather change. I have collected terrestrial plants locally (for a desktop garden) right next to a pond and a few streams and never thought to dip in to them. Thanks for the idea. Also is there anything you have found I should look out for, good or bad?

Sush, thanks for taking the initiative in organizing this.

How bout something between thanksgiving and new years. A saturday or sunday afternoon would be best for me. Much might be depending on the Mystic people as to when will be suitable.

that said....I never was any good at getting people together and all that. Mystic sounds cool and i've never been, however i probably wouldn't be able to make it. I can't pick a date my calendar is constantly changing, it's easier to try and make something fit than keep a tentative date open.
