Default Denizens in Ft. Collins

Went there last weekend and they had a sign posted "Closed due to family emergency". Went there again yesterday and its still up. Have noticed this place is a real disappointment compared to about 10+ yrs ago. Wonder if its goin down.

I think we can all agree that the business has seen better days. I would agree that its "heyday" was in the mid 1990s. Like many shops, Denizens has changed management over the years. Perhaps current ownership doesn't share the passion and insight of the previous ones. Still a decent shop, just not as good as it used to be.

Default Closing

From what I heard Denizens is closed. I also heard that a past employee who is passionate about the hobby is trying to reopen the store. But this is all just rumor so who knows.

I figured it probably was. Hopefully this person will be able to buy it and return it to its former glory. The last couple times I was in there, it was very "bare". I really liked the Old Man who many refered to as a Nazi. But he was a great guy. I had many a great conversation with him, and in turn, spent alot of $$ with him, but worth every penny.

Yeah I tried to call last weekend. Really sad when the line was disconnected.

Weird to, because I was just there about a month ago, hardly any equipment, great looking fish. Such a shame.

Angry Denizens is NO MORE

Denizens was not bought by the guy I thought. It was bought buy some people who own a used video game store. The new store is going to be a combination aquariums and video games. What sence does that make?????? The have lost my business for ever. Now I guess in Fort Collins its D&G or the internet.......

Yeah......I went there last Saturday. There was a sign "Closed due to remodeling", but the door was open.

So I walked in and a 10 year old kid came out and told me that the store is closed for remodeling.

What a dissapointment. It used to be one of my favorite stores to browse in there with my kids.

Default New Owners

I drove by the other day and spoke with the new owner (guy that also owns the trade and play video game store) and i guess the back maze will stay fish and plants, the upper level (To left of desk as you walk in) will be aquarium dry goods, and the lower level (right of desk) will be all games and game systems. Very strange store combination, but he said he is going to keep the freshwater and plant focus... his exact words were "Nothing is going to change." We shall see.

Well, I personally wish them luck. Sometimes change is good. Who knows, maybe the change and combination will serve them and us as well. Hell, I love video games and aquariums. Kill two birds with one drive from Loveland. Sounds okay to me.

Denizens is open again. I was in yesterday and its still in the process of being set up. All the fish they had are the ones left from when it closed a few months ago, all the pricing is identical. (that may change though) No plants in stock right now. The guy told me they are changing the name to "Deep Seas"

Default "Deep Seas"

Not "Deep Seas" but Deep Seize. What kind of a name is that??? What does seize have to do with fish?

What does "Seize" have to do with video games for that matter?

Unhappy denizens info?

Hi - I'm new and hoping someone will have some info. I bought a gift certificate at Denizens at the end of Sept for $500 for my husband's birthday. When we went back to use it, they were closed. I'm trying to get the money back from the credit card company.

Does anyone know when they actually closed? If you know any of the employees and could ask I would REALLY appreciate it.

What a disappointment. We were just about to get started and were really looking forward to it.

On man...that's too bad...I loved Denizens when I lived in Fort Collins; I'd go there all the time. There used to be another Denizens in Cheyenne at the Cole Shopping Center (I remember because Cole's my name)...who knows if they're still around. good luck. maybe try calling the city/BBB? they might be able to help.

Also, I saw this a while ago...perhaps it still available? It may take some of the bitterness out of a potential $500 loss because it's a hell of a deal. Again, best of luck....
