Anyone hear of a wholesale fish store in the LA area? A friend told me about it, but forgot to give me the address. You pay like $12 for membership and you get like 40% off wholesale prices or something...

Default I HATE Tongs in FV

They always give me the worst serive when I go there. I think ive just spent my last dollar there. I should have known when I brought in some water for shrimp that died with in the hour i got them. That they didnt know how to care for them...they told me at 6.5 my PH was too low for them and thats why they died. Funny thing is shrimp from every other store I've bought never died like they do when I buy them from Tongs.

cozmo, it may be a bit of a drive (you could call first), but this place in Calimesa is nice:

Shillington Aquariums
965 Calimesa Blvd, Calimesa, CA
(909) 795-9011

If anyone is out in the Palm Springs/Palm Desert area, don't miss this place:

Aquarium Odyssey

Palm Desert, CA 92260

Torrance... go to torrance.....

Neptune's Reef

2851 Pacific Coast Highway
Torrance, CA 90505

(310) 534-2323

Their prices arent the best, but they cater to the planted tank hobby. if you need plant or a certain kind of shrimp, they've got it for you. trust me, you wont be disappointed. i will have pictures up soon!

I have to agree that the service there is unpredictable, alright one day and very bad the next . The last time I was there I was standing around for about 20 minutes without anyone bothering to ask if I needed help even though I was looking for someone to help bag a fish for me. There were about two other customers in the store, one was also being ignored and the other one was chatting up a storm with one of the employees. When I went over to ask for his help he did not even speak to me. He just said, "I will find someone else to help him." to his friend/customer? So another employee helped us and did not seem to enjoy doing his job . Well it has been a while since I have been back they just left the wrong impression

I understand this is an old thread but i just have to say that Tongs in Fountain Valley is HORRIBLE!

they have huge selection and are always super busy, however the freshwater fish are not taken care of well at all. i stopped buying fish from them a long time ago, even when i quarantine the fish in a small 5 gallon tank so they wont be stressed out as if i put them straight in my bigger tanks with more fish, they usually die with 1-5 days. One time I was in there and saw a tank full of colored glass fish all covered in ich. I pointed it out to one of the employees and he told me that it wasnt ich it was something else (forgot what he said) and that it just falls off after a few days.... RIGHT. funny how there was at least 10 dead fish in that tank. And as for dead fish, they have dead fish in all their fresh water tanks. Every time I've had fish die I usually return them, in which they always test my water and inform me that the water is fine, and then the replacement fish die and i dont bother going back.

overall they just have really poor quality fish, go there for other products but dont buy anything living from them cause it wont stay that way for long

Thanks for the feedback Blake. I would recommend, at this point, heading over to All About Fish. Kirt is starting to stock ADA products and has been reported as having a great selection of fish including some of the less common.
